My name is Dr. Toby Welch. I graduated in 2022 with a doctorate in Doctor of Education Leadership in Higher Education. During my dissertation, I started having a passion for studying Deaf Christianity because I didn’t find sufficient resources for deaf people to learn the Bible. He started “Deaf Table Talk with Dr. Toby” in 2023 because he found that only 2% of deaf people know Jesus Christ, while 98% of deaf people do not know the Lord Jesus Christ. See the source. It broke his heart, and he decided to start the blog.

His passion for the study is not only for Deaf Christianity, but he also wants to study Deaf communities and cultures. The study is helping him to find how to educate hearing people about the Deaf culture and learn how to respect Deaf people as they respect hearing people.

He wants to share many resources with deaf people on how to minister to other deaf people. Also, they will ask hearing churches for help, such as setting up a deaf ministry, an interpreter service, or a deaf church in their home area.

He is an American Sign Language teacher at a high school, an adjunct faculty for a few colleges, and a pastor. He married a wonderful woman for over nine years and has two wonderful stepchildren. They live in Maryland.
